Sustainability

Decisions we make today define who we are tomorrow—as a company—as a planet

That’s why Lou Hansell, from its very beginnings, dedicated itself to transforming the ordinary into extraordinary in every aspect—from preserving and protecting fine clothing for maximum wear to choosing suppliers and craftsmen who share in the vision of creating luxury ethically and with a conscience.

We are all connected to one another, our communities, ecosystems and other businesses around the world. Lou Hansell is committed to making increasing investments toward a better environment and selecting partners who are working toward these same goals.

Leathers

USDA Certified Biobased

The USDA Biobased certification issued measures the renewability of a material. The increased development, purchase and use of biobased products increases the use of renewable agricultural resources, and contributes to reduce adverse environmental and health impacts. Leather processed by our supplier is the first leather in the world to be USDA certified biobased.

ICEC

The ISO 14001:2015 certification refers to the international standard that provides organizations with a framework to protect the environment and to respond to the changes of the environmental conditions according to the needs of the socio-economic context. It specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance with a view to continuous improvement.

LWG

Leather Working Group develops and maintains a protocol that assesses environmental compliance and business practices regarding sustainability by promoting improvements in the leather industry. Lou Hansell’s supplier was awarded the maximum score for organizations, Gold Rated.

Blue Angel

Blue Angel certified products better protect the environment and people’s health.

Leather Naturally

Our supplier is a member of Leather Naturally that promotes the use of globally-manufactured sustainable leather.

Metals – Aluminum

Durable

Strong and adaptable, aluminum possesses the ability to retain its properties even after recycling—almost infinitely.

Recyclable

Seventy-five percent of all aluminum produced since the 1800s is still in use today around the world from fine automobiles to technology. Recycling and use of this metal saves 95 percent of the energy required compared to the processing of raw material.

Responsible

Lou Hansell has appointed partners who go above and beyond to monitor the environmental impact crafting this metal has on noise, clean air and water, and the collection of scraps and sprues for re-use in other fine products.
